Scottish Food Products - Breads & Bakery
A true Scot would have to list breads, biscuits and cakes as part of their childhood memories. As a nation we have a very sweet tooth and in previous generations mothers, aunts and grandmothers would conjure up Oatcakes, Shortbreads, Pancakes, Scones, Fruit Cakes, Ginger bread, Black Bun and many more. Other childhood favourites still very much in demand are the manufactured favourites such as Lees macaroon bars, Lees snowballs, Tunnocks Teacakes and Tunnock Caramel Wafers .... the list is endless and demonstrates the ingenuity of the Scottish kitchen.
Regional favourites such as the Forfar Bridie, Aberdeen Butteries, Selkirk Bannocks and Dundee Cakes are as popular today as they were a century ago when they formed part of many a childhood treat. Whereever you travel in Scotland you should be guaranteed a delightful choice of sweet and savoury bakes with your morning coffee or afternoon tea.
